There are two types of end mill chucks that are most used on the market, one is a chuck with good concentricity (such as a spring chuck), and the other is a side locking chuck collet.
Taking the collet as an example, the collet is composed of a collet body, an elastic collet inserted into the collet body, and a nut sleeved on the collet to tighten the thread. When the nut is tightened, the elastic collet surrounding the round shank exerts a strong clamping force on the shank, so the tool can obtain longer life and higher feed rate, and can improve the surface finish of the workpiece, but This collet has no physical stop mechanism, so it is easy to cause deflection of the collet.
The side locking chuck will push the tool away from the center position when clamping, so the cutting edge on one side of the milling cutter will bear more cutting load. Once the cutting edge is worn, the entire tool will fail prematurely, but under heavy load Tightening screws prevent the tool from being pulled out of the collet hole when roughing.
